Punjabi Dhadkan is operated by a group of dancers who hope to gift the art and traditions of Punjabi culture to the next generation of American Punjabis through Punjab’s wonderful Lok Nach (Giddha and Bhangra).
Bhangra and Giddha are both very energetic and fun dance forms.
Giddha, a female centric dance form, celebrates Punjabi traditions and speaks to womanhood. Giddha is an essential form of storytelling and commemoration in Punjabi culture. Bhangra, originally a male centric dance form which is now performed by everyone, also celebrates Punjabi traditions, but acts as a more uniform and beat driven dance form.
Punjab is a state of India which is full of rich culture and zestful traditions. Most occasions in Punjab are celebrated through song and dance, and our folk dance, known as lok nach, is a principal feature of our culture.
Punjabi Dhadkan Dance Academy is founded by parents and teachers who cherish their Punjabi heritage and are deeply devoted to gift our rich, colorful traditions and values to the next generation, one child at a time.
More than 15 years ago the academy’s founders, Dimple and Pinku, met and danced together on an enthusiastic giddha team which performed at many events and competitions. After years of persistent requests by the community to provide formal teaching sessions, they formed Punjabi Dhadkan Dance Academy. Starting as only a giddha school, the academy has now grown to teach giddha, bhangra, and dhol in multiple cities.
We encourage all individuals and parents who are interested in introducing themselves or their children to Punjabi folk dances, culture, and traditions to join us and enroll!
